SSIS ODBC ISSUE

ZZ
This post has NOT been accepted by the mailing list yet.
Hi all, (sorry, I´m not an expert on Data Connectivity)
Í want to create a SSIS pakage to extract data from Firebird 2.5 to MS SQL.
OK, I´ve installed Firebird Server, ODBC (Firebird/Interbase driver 2.00.00.151) and SQL Server.

I´m trying to use "Ado .Net Source" with a ODBC Data Provider, fine, I can connect, even I can preview data, but when I run the pakage, I only see some fields; Numeric and Dates field are OK, but strings ones are not present, only blank data came from Database.

What´s wrong?

Is better to use OLE DB source? How can I install the provider on VS2008 BI Development Studio?

thx.

Re: SSIS ODBC ISSUE

OK, that´s a ODBC 2.0 RC2 bug.

I´ll do it with old ODBC 1.2 (and I´ll run pakage in 32 bits mode!!)

thx.

Re: SSIS ODBC ISSUE

ZZ
Hi all, I get in trouble with this again.

Recently I have to add a fuzzy lookup to my package, and there is a bug running fuzzy lookup transformation in 32bit mode not resolved at this time (details here) , so I need to run in 64 (for lookup) but then I can´t make ODBC 2.0 to work with varchar fields.

Please, any ideas?

Re: SSIS ODBC ISSUE

Hussein, Ehab
I ended up creating linked server and then wrote a script to get all
tables and their data from the linked server into a my database. As soon
as I have everything on my database, I can use SSIS with no problem.

Hope that help.

Re: SSIS ODBC ISSUE

Hi all,

I saw this post a while back and thought I would post for others what I found to help... I was having the same problem (blank char/varchar fields) - unfortunately using a linked server wasn't an option for me as you can't use 32bit drivers (like the old ODBC driver) for linked servers on 64bit SQL Server.

I found a work around at the link below, basically to summarise - on your data source, set the error output for each problem column to be 'redirect row'. Then add a multicast to your dataflow and connect your error output (red arrow) to the multicast (you will get a warning if you don't handle the errors).

A bit strange why this works, but it does. I didn't actually have any errors to be handled.

Also I note text fields (as opposed to char/varchar) seem to migrate fine without needing the redirection option.

My most heartfelt thanks for this solution. I have a number of SSIS jobs which have been running fine for years and then suddenly started showing this behaviour in the last month or so. I've been almost tearing my hair out trying to find the solution.

This has to count as one of the strangest solutions (and bugs, for that matter) I've ever seen, though.
